The Community Needs You - Help Us Launch Community Speed Watch in Hale & Altrincham

Good Afternoon,

I am once again asking for your help. Over the past few months, one issue has consistently been raised by residents across Hale and Altrincham is speeding. Whether it is concerns about vehicles travelling too fast through residential streets, near schools, or along busy local roads, many of you have told us that road safety matters to you and your families.

A few weeks ago, I appealed for volunteers to join a new Community Speed Watch scheme. Sadly, despite the level of concern expressed by the community, we have only received one volunteer. As things stand, we do not have enough volunteers to launch the scheme.

This is where we need your help.

Community Speed Watch gives local residents the opportunity to work alongside Greater Manchester Police to make a real difference in their neighbourhood. Volunteers are fully trained and provided with all necessary equipment, including speed detection devices and high-visibility clothing. No previous experience is required, just a willingness to give a little of your time to help make Hale and Altrincham safer.

The purpose of the scheme is not to catch as many motorists as possible. It is about educating drivers, reducing vehicle speeds, and improving road safety in areas identified by local people as a concern.

By volunteering, you can help:

• Reduce the risk of serious collisions and injuries
• Encourage motorists to comply with speed limits
• Raise awareness of the dangers of excessive speed
• Improve the quality of life within our communities
• Make Hale and Altrincham safer places to live, work and travel

The reality is simple: if we do not recruit enough volunteers, the scheme cannot go ahead.

Many residents have told us they want action on speeding. This is an opportunity for the community to be part of that action. Even a small amount of your time could help make a significant difference to the safety of our roads.

If speeding concerns you, or if you want to play an active role in improving your community, I would strongly encourage you to consider volunteering.
